Obituary For Anna Valaskatgis

Naples, FL – Anna (Vontzalides) Valaskatgis 88, beloved wife of the late Arthur E. Valaskatgis, died Monday, March 6, 2023 at Salem Hospital.

Born and raised in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Oreste and Hariclea (Colomiris) Vontzalides. She graduated from Peabody High School and earned her Bachelor degree in education from Salem Teachers College, class of 1956.

Mrs. Valaskatgis had been employed for twenty-five years as a special education teacher for the Danvers school system until the time of her retirement in 1984. Prior to that she had worked for five years for the Saugus school system. She was a member of the Mass Retired Teachers Association.

Anna was a resident of Naples, FL for over thirty years and summered on the North Shore, Anna was an active member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody and St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Naples where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and volunteered in the church office. She was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope and GOYA at the church. Anna was an avid New England sports fan especially her beloved Red Sox going to games at Jet Blue Park and Fenway Park with her friends and family. Anna loved traveling with Arthur spending their time cruising on their boat and visiting friends and family in Florida and here in New England. Anna always had homemade Greek cookies on hand for visitors. She was a loving step-mother, step grandmother, step great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving her are two step-daughters, Christine Wright of Michigan and Diane O’Keefe and her husband, Joseph of Salem, a step-son, Paul Valaskatgis and his wife, Nanette of Salem, seven step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren, two sisters, Aglaia Rouvalis of NH and Helen Goeckler of CT, a sister-in-law, Betty Vontzsalides of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Aristotle Vontzalides and Mary Brown.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, Monday, March 13, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Conway Cahill Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
