Obituary For Antonio "Tony" F. Nunes

Antonio “Tony” F. Nunes, age 80, of Peabody, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on January 10, 2022, at Beverly Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Ernestina Cortico Simoes Nunes with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

Born, raised, and educated in Vila Nova de Oliveirinha, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose Marques and Carlota Alves da Fonseca. He lived in Portugal until emigrating to the United States in 1967. He had lived in Peabody for over 45 years.

Mr. Nunes had worked as a machine operator for several years. Prior to his retirement, he worked in maintenance for the Peabody Police department for 10 years.

Tony was a loyal and dedicated CLC member where he served as president, secretary, and treasurer. He was actively involved in several different capacities. Additionally, he was a member of the Portuguese Continental Union. Tony was proud of his Portuguese heritage and always ready to help in any way that he could. Antonio had a great passion for soccer, a sport that he played throughout his life. He also was a big fan of his favorite soccer team, Sporting, and watched them religiously. He truly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a proud father and devoted husband as well as a grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Antonio is survived by his children, Antonio S. Nunes and his wife Rachell Manarang of Peabody, and Elizabeth S. DiMarzio and her husband James M. of Norwood; his grandchildren, Alivia DiMarzio, Brianna DiMarzio, and Matthew Nunes, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Fernando Marques da Fonseca and Rogerio Marques da Fonseca.

Arrangements: Visiting hours will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, from 10 until 12:15 p.m. followed by his funeral Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St., Peabody, at 1:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. All attendees are required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
