Obituary For Augustine F. "Gus" Sharry Jr.

Augustine F. “Gus” Sharry Jr., 94, beloved husband of the late Margaret S. “Peggy” (Post) Sharry, died Monday, December 5, 2022 at the Lahey Medical Center in Peabody, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Boston and raised in Somerville, he was the son of the late former Somerville Police Chief, Augustine F. Sharry Sr. and Rosetta (Silva) Sharry. He graduated from Somerville High School, class of 1945 and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.

Mr. Sharry started his career at the Ford Motor Company before joining Stone & Webster Corporation in Boston where he served as an engineering manager for thirty-two years until the time of his retirement in 1985.

A man of faith and family, he was passionate about education, mentoring, encouraging and supporting his children and grandchildren in their life’s work. Mr. Sharry loved driving, visiting all 50 states, driving to 49. A hands-on builder, he will be remembered for his Sunday “construction tours” all around Greater Boston.

A longtime resident of the City of Peabody, Mr. Sharry was an active communicant of St. Adelaide’s Church in Peabody. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Surviving him are six daughters, Mary Smith and her husband, James of Beverly, Christine Sharry and her husband, Dean DeHaven of Salem, Margaret Tenczar and her husband, Michael of Andover, Kathleen Sharry of Peabody Tracey Gilpin of Marlborough and Rosemary Wilhelm and her husband, Xavier of Revere, two sons, Augustine F. Sharry III and his wife, Susan of Park City, UT and Stephen Sharry of Peabody, seven grandchildren, Mary, James, Austin, Jake, Francis, Paul and Nicholas and a great grandson, Marcus. He was also the brother of the late Mary Bradford and Rosetta Sheehan.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody, Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A visiting hour will be held at the church on Tuesday morning prior to the Mass from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Arrangements by the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Catholic Charities, 13 Pulaski St, Peabody, MA 01960.
