Obituary For Blair Schetrompf, Jr
Blair Schetrompf, Jr., 97, of Peabody, died peacefully Monday morning following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann Marie (Potter) Schetrompf. Born in Hancock, MD, he was the son of the late Blair and Augusta (Scriever) Schetrompf. He was raised and educated in Buck Valley, PA and has lived in Peabody for the past 58 years. Blair served three tours of duty that lasted over 21 years with the United States Navy, first in WWII, then the Korean War, and finally before his honorable discharge, the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge from the military, he moved his family to Peabody and worked for over 24 years for the City of Peabody School Department as supervisor of maintenance until his retirement. Blair was an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association over the years and was a little league coach in the City of Peabody as well. He was passionate about his family and his garden and could always be relied upon to have his checkerboard ready for a game with his grandchildren.Blair is survived by his two sons, John Schetrompf of Haverhill and Jeffrey Schetrompf of Peabody, his three daughters, Lorrie & Bruce Curtis of Haverhill, Donna & Robert Guarente of Peabody and Nancy & James Morin of Peabody, his three sisters, Yvonne Perry and Moynelle Peck, both of MD and Mildred Beddow of WV. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Angela, Matthew, Michelle, Nicholas, Andrew, Samantha, Bradley, Conor, Michael, Daniel, and Ashley. He also has 5 great grandchildren; Declan, Ayla, Chelsea, Bryce and Kyle and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Mary Frances Schetrompf and his sister Margaret Jay.Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody and his Funeral Service will be on Saturday at 9:30 AM at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Honor Flight of New England (www.honorflightnewengland.org).
