Obituary For Carol A Porcello

Carol A. Porcello, age 83, died in the early morning of Friday, November 11, following complications after surgery.

A lifelong resident of Salem, Carol was born on December 20, 1938. She was one of eight children to the late Edward and Helen (Donovan) Sylvester. Carol attended Bowditch School and graduated from Salem High School in 1956. From there, she worked for the Massachusetts Gas and Electric Company, Salem School Department, and finally, retail until her retirement. Carol also opened a day care center in her home for many years and was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Salem until its closure.

On September 6, 1959, Carol married Peter Porcello, also of Salem. Together, they raised four children. She cherished her children, as well as her grandchildren. Carol loved to spoil her grandkids, play games with the family, and cook Sunday dinners for all. Throughout her life, Carol enjoyed traveling with friends and family to many destinations, including Point Sebago with her kids, Sarasota and Ogunquit with friends, and visiting family in Wisconsin.

Surviving Carol is her husband, Peter, children: Peter, Donna (DeMarco), Cathy (Royer), and Michael and his wife Sue, her grandchildren: Angela DeMarco, Ashley Royer, and Ariana and Rosa Porcello, her step-grandchildren: Danielle and Nicholas Royer, and special niece Jane Porcello. Also surviving her are her sisters Barbara Holloran and her husband Ronald, and Kathleen Wilkinson and John Wilkinson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. She was predeceased by her siblings Gaye Gaudrault, Robert Sylvester, Dolores Grieco, Joan Sylvester, and Marilyn Sylvester.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street Peabody, MA on Wednesday, November 16, from 4:00-7:00pm. Her funeral mass will be held at St. John’s the Baptist Church on Chestnut Street in Peabody, Thursday, November 17, at 11:00am. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to St. Jude’s Hospital by visiting www.stjude.org or Shriner’s Hospital by visiting www.shrinerschildrens.org.
