Peabody – Claire M. (Carroll) Whelan 92, beloved wife of the late James F. Whelan, died Friday, November 4, 2022 at the Lafayette Health Care Center in Marblehead with her family by her side.

Born and raised in West Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Albert C. and Elizabeth (Fanning) Carroll. She received her education at St. Mary’s Grammar School and St. Mary’s Girls High School in Lynn.

A longtime resident of Peabody, Mrs. Whelan dedicated her life to raising her family and was a longtime parishioner of St. Ann’s Church in Peabody. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving her are two sons, Timothy J. Whelan and his wife, Joan of Marblehead and Daniel J. Whelan and his wife, Lisa of Lynnfield, two daughters-in-law, Denise Whelan of Lynn and Lisa Whelan of Chandler, AZ, seven grandchildren, Ashley Stanley and her husband, Mark, T.J. Whelan and his wife, Elyse, Michael Whelan, Terri Nich and her husband, Michael, Casey Whelan and her husband, Ian Reyes, Jackie Whelan and Jimmy Whelan, six great grandchildren, a sister, Genevieve Gannon of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Richard F. Whelan and Brian C. Whelan.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody, Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
