Obituary For Dolores L Carney

Dolores L. (Welling) Carney, R.N., 82 of Danvers, MA died Thursday, December 23, 2021, at the Beverly Hospital after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late Philip J. Carney.

She was born in South Boston, MA in, 1939, the daughter of the late Augustus A. and Pearl L. (Weeks) Welling and had resided in Peabody before moving to Danvers 52 years ago.

She graduated from Boston College School of Nursing in 1960 and spent 57 years as a nurse. After Boston College, she was an instructor at Salem Hospital School of Nursing. She later initiated an In-Service Education Program at Fairview General Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio before moving back to Danvers and was a nurse and floor nurse and supervisor at Salem Hospital, Hunt Hospital, Danvers, Beverly Hospital and in physician offices on the North Shore. She was active in the American Red Cross, Massachusetts Special Olympics, Project Hope and was a Den Mother for the boy scouts. During her youth, she had been a champion Roller Skater and was an avid reader. Dolores was a CCD teacher at St. Alphonse Church in Beverly and had a large collection of Angels. She also enjoyed traveling and taking trips to York Beach, Maine.

She is survived by her two sons, Daniel P. Carney of Hudson, NH and Kevin P. Carney of Danvers, a daughter, Karen D, Proto of Saugus, her 5 precious grandchildren, Christopher, Meghan and Caitlan Carney of Peabody, and Allison and Brooke Proto of Saugus. She was the sister of the late Augustus Welling Jr. and Francis A. Welling. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Nancy Welling, her lifelong friend, Lauraine Lombara and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to r masks while in Church.
