Obituary For Doris M. (Murphy) Decker

Doris M. (Murphy) Decker, Age 85, of Peabody, passed away at her residence on Monday, August 30, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born in Lynn on February 8, 1936. She was the daughter of the late James William and Annie (Donahue) Murphy. She attended Lynn schools and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1953.

Mrs. Decker had been employed by JB Thomas Hospital and Salem Hospital where she worked as a purchasing agent until the time of her retirement in 2000.

Doris was a strong, independent and humble person, who was devoted to her family. She loved celebrating birthdays and holidays with them. She lovingly provided an angel cake topped with cherry frosting for each birthday in keeping with the family tradition.

Doris’ Catholic faith was very important to her. She was a devoted communicant at St. Ann’s Parish in Peabody. Over the years, Doris was active in many aspects of parish life. In her earlier years, she served as the CYO girls basketball team coach leading them to winning the championship. She was also involved in religious education, the parish ministry of outreach to My Brother’s Table and was a Eucharistic Minister.

Doris was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time at the South Branch of the Peabody Institute Library where she was considered a regular. She loved sports, especially the New England Patriots, and was very fond of puzzles. Doris also enjoyed dancing and participated in all different forms of dance.

Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving her are her children, Deborah Obremski and her husband, Thomas of Peabody, Richard Decker of Peabody, Diane Gendron of Danvers, Patricia Richard and her husband, Philip of Peabody, Larry Decker and his wife, Sylvie of Sarasota, FL., and Ronald Decker of Peabody; her grandchildren, Danielle Bresnihan and her husband, David, Michael Obremski and his wife, Amanda, Alyssa Fields and her husband, Erik, Traci Gendron, Jacquelyn, Jenna, Jordan, and Janelle Richard, and Erik and Evan Decker; her great grandchildren, Gavin and Kaia Fields and Isaac Obremski. She was looking forward to the birth of her third great grandson; her sister-in-law, Virginia Murphy, and several nieces and nephews that she adored. Doris also leaves behind her four dear friends, Jean Connolly, Pat Fabucci, Alice O’Brien, and Marilyn Ryder.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her bother, James William Murphy; her sister, M. Claire Card and her husband, Richard; her lifelong friend, Joan Cordero; and her former husband, Charles Decker.

Doris’s family would like to acknowledge the many caregivers from Care Dimensions who provided her with loving care during her illness. Special gratitude is extended to Nancy and Mildred.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held at St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody, Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Face masks are preferred. Visiting hours on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Conway Cahill Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Contributions may be made in her memory to St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody, MA 01960, My Brother’s Table, 98 Willow St, Lynn, MA 01901, or Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.

    I haven't seen Doris in quite a few years but what I remember most was her beautiful countenance and her strong faith and love for the Lord. Patti and family, Steve and I send our deepest condolences. We know she will be greatly missed.
