Obituary For Dorothy N. Buckley
Peabody – Dorothy N. (Grigg) Buckley, 95, beloved wife of the late Raymond Buckley, died Friday, April 7, 2023 at the Masconomet Rehabilitation Center in Topsfield.
Born and raised in Gloucester, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Emma (Kearsey) Grigg. She was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1946 and the Beverly Hospital School of Nursing class of 1949. Dorothy loved working as a nurse at Beverly Hospital and became a nurse educator.
In 1955, she married the love of her life, Raymond. Suddenly widowed at 41 with five children ages 5 through 12, Dorothy embraced the challenge of raising them on her own to the lasting benefit of her family. She bought a camp on Lake Sokokis in Limerick, ME where she inspired deep family values and created wonderful lifelong family memories.
At the age of 54, Dorothy went back to school and earned a degree in Gerontology from North Shore Community College. Dorothy worked with the elderly as a social worker at the Peabody Council on Aging for 23 years until her retirement at 78.
She loved nothing more than being with her children and grandchildren. She loved music, laughing, playing games and throwing a great party. Dorothy had many talents – from baking and painting to sewing, especially when it came to making elaborate Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving her are her children: Paul Buckley and his wife Jeannie of Franklin, Sandra Cloutman of Peabody, Patty Horgan and her husband Scott of Marstons Mills, Carol Mordach and her husband John of Naperville, IL, and Judy Hayman and her husband Tom of Marblehead; her grandchildren, Emilie, Zachary, John, Katie, Cole, Doug, Sam, Maddie, Griffin, Sean, Elizabeth, Nick, and Faith; her four great grandchildren, Wesley, Joshua, Oscar, and Owen; her great friend and sister-in-law, Janet Ring and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was also the sister of the late Alice Silveria, Ruth O’Brien, Roland Grigg, and Robert Grigg.
ARRANGEMENTS: A visitation will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by a service in the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
