Obituary For Dorothy (Pavlo) Tsouvalas

Dorothy (Pavlo) Tsouvalas, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 27,2022 with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter Tsouvalas with whom she shared 40 years of marriage. She was born in Peabody on January 15, 1932, the daughter of the late John and Antonetta (Rafael) Pavlo and was a lifelong resident of Peabody. She graduated from Peabody High School, class of 1950 and Salem Commercial Secretarial School.

She worked for over 25 years at the Internal Revenue Service in Andover as a Senior Tax Examiner. Following her retirement, she worked at Macy’s Department Store at the North Shore Mall. Dorothy was very proud of her Albanian and Greek Heritage of which she was fluent in both languages. She was a devout parishioner of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church and was a member of the Ladies Philoptohos Society and the Daughters of Penelope. Her love for the church and her faith was an integral part of her life.

She had many interests including sewing, crocheting and embroidery. She celebrated her Greek culture by baking traditional pastries and listening to Greek music.

She is survived by her son John and his wife Irene Tsouvalas of Georgetown, her loving granddaughters, Paula (Tsouvalas) and her husband James Ellison, Stephanie (Tsouvalas) and her husband David Hernandez, her great grandchildren, John and Anne Ellison and Alexia and Michael Hernandez. Dorothy is also survived by her sister Sophie, her brother and his wife Arthur and Maria Pavlo of Peabody, her sister-in-law Estelle Tsouvalas of Peabody and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Pauline Pavlo, brothers-in-law, Arthur Sotir, Spiro Tsouvalas and his wife Helen, Emanuel Tsouvalas and her dear uncle Naum and Mia Thomas.

As a mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, Yiayia, and friend, Dorothy was an angel on earth and one of a kind. For all those that she lived for, she will always remain in their hearts and memories.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 9:00 until 10:30 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Vasilios Building Fund, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody MA 01960.
