Obituary For Eduina E. Silva

Eduina E. Silva, age 89, of Peabody, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, February 11, 2022. She was the loving wife of Jose da Cunha Silva with whom she shared nearly 65 years of marriage.

Born in Luz, Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Ermelindo and Alice E. (Espinola) Ataide. Mrs. Silva was raised and educated in Portugal. She emigrated to the United States in 1951, settling in Peabody where she has since resided.

Eduina had been employed in the leather industry for over 40 years beginning her career at New England Sportswear. Thirty of those years, were spent working side by side with her husband.

Mrs. Silva enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking and baking, especially her Portuguese biscoitos for her husband’s breakfast. Eduina had a wonderful sense of humor making those who knew her laugh especially by creating her own words for things. Her most recent being, referring to her Moderna vaccine as her Madonna vaccine. Above all, she truly loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Donna Espinola and her husband, Celestino of Colchester, VT., her son and caregiver, Joseph M. Silva of Peabody and New York City, and Linda A. and her husband, John E. Kelley Jr. of Pelham, NH.; her grandchildren, Mathew Espinola, Jeffrey Espinola and his wife, Leilane, Meagan Kelley and her fiancé, Nicholas Manning, Caitlin Golden and her husband, Jonathan, Erin Thompson and her husband, Evrett, and John E. Kelley III and his wife, Shannon; her great grandchildren, Julia and Kevin Espinola, and Judah and Mairead Golden; her sister, Maria Idelta Burkett; and many nieces and nephews. Eduina was predeceased by her grandson, Andrew Espinola; her siblings, Gilberto Ataide, Maria Alice Ataide, Manuel Ataide, Mary Mello, and her twin sister, Lourdes who passed at 3 days old.

Eduina’s family would like to thank the staff from Care Dimensions who watched over her for the past week. Also, a special thank you to Danis her home health aide for her compassionate care over the past 3 years.

Arrangements: Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 3 Margin Street, Peabody on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, on Wednesday, February 16, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. All attendees are required to wear masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
