Obituary For Edward F Getson, Jr

Edward F Getson, Jr, 75, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died Tuesday June 14, 2022, at the Pilgrim Nursing Home in Peabody following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Mary Briget McCabe with whom he shared over 14 years of marriage.

Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Edward F Getson, Sr and Victoria (Zaleckas) Getson. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, class of 1964. He continued his education at Northeastern University and received his bachelor’s degree in 1969. He later returned to Northeastern and received his master’s degree in Electrical engineering in 1972

Ed and Briget shared a beautiful love story that began in 2001, when they met jogging at their condo complex. He cooked wonderful dinners for her after she returned from a long day at work. They became engaged in a gazebo, on Palm Sunday, April 1, 2007, in St. Maarten, as the full moon was rising over the Caribbean. They married a year later at Our Lady’s in Lynnfield and were blessed to have 21 amazing years together. He was a devoted, caring husband. They went on numerous tours together and with friends to Europe, and especially enjoyed Ireland, Italy, and the Christmas Market in Munich and Salzburg. Ed loved cruising, especially the Caribbean and Mediterranean. He was fortunate to be on the Celebrity Edge for 4 weeks last February. He was always the consummate gentleman, very thoughtful of everyone, and a good listener, especially to stories told driving Briget and her coworkers’ home after returning from their Delta flights. He made sure they were comfortable, treating them like Royalty!

Ed was a brilliant engineer at Honeywell and was awarded 11 patents! He was an avid runner, gardener, and enjoyed picnics, parties, the outdoors, especially the ocean.

Ed was selfless man, mentoring others, and supporting those he cared for. He always had a positive outlook on life, and never complained about the health challenges he faced. He was appreciative and grateful for every act of kindness! His faith was a source of comfort. Ed was Briget’s protector and confidant and will be missed terribly. His spirit will always be with her. As a dear friend said, “He is running with the Angels now!”

Besides his beloved wife Briget, he is survived by his sister, Diane Bromwell of Annapolis, MD, his cousin, William and his wife Anne Marie Mullen of Peabody and their children, Elizabeth Mullen and Marie Bylund.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Maria Goretti Church, Lynnfield to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org of the Ave Maria Parish, 17 Grove St. Lynnfield, MA 01940.

Our family had the privilege of meeting Ed, and Briget, on the first Celebrity Cruise out of the US after the pandemic. Wow, what a man! What a couple! Ed was so sweet and sat and listened to our conversations with such joy in his eyes. It was so clear the love he had for his devoted, and caring, wife. Everywhere we went on the cruise we looked for Ed and Brigit and more often than not, they were surrounded by others who loved talking to them. Ed will be missed and I wish I could give him one more hug, but I know, and believe he is free and happy in Heaven. May he rest in peace.
