Obituary For Elena M Yioulos

Elena (Pernokas) Yioulos passed away peacefully on March 28, 2023, surrounded by her family.

The daughter of the late Angelos Pernokas and Anne (Anton) Pernokas, Elena was born on April 13, 1957 in Corinth, Greece, coming to the United States as an infant. She was raised in Peabody, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Peabody Memorial High School. She was also a graduate of Emerson College.

Elena was much beloved by the many people she met throughout her life. She was innately kind, passionate, strong-willed, sensitive and funny. She deeply valued being of service to those around her, and found great purpose as a professional caregiver. She often showed her love through food, as she was well-accomplished in the art of Greek cuisine. She was constantly in the midst of a passion project, and gave a masterful, elegant touch to every creative endeavor she pursued. She loved her home, and always made sure that it was appropriately decorated for whichever holiday season was around the corner. She fiercely loved her family, and kept their traditions alive and sacred, as they will do for her now.

She is survived by her husband Dimitri, children Zoe and Alexis, brother Arthur, nieces Christina and Andrea, and grand-puppies Sunny and Twyla. She will be greatly missed. At her request, final arrangements will be kept simple.

Those wishing to do so may donate to Salem Hospital and Care Dimensions Hospice in her memory.

Elena was a wonderful neighbor. I loved seeing her magic touch as she transformed her entryway into a celebration of each season. We were also often the beneficiaries of her amazing culinary talents. I will miss her presence on the back deck enjoying the birds (and squirrels) feasting from the feeders. We are so sorry for your loss such a giving wife and mother.

Elena was a wonderful, caring, and compassionate person who touched all of us with the love and kindness she showed to our family. She was truly a gift from God helping us care for my father during the most difficult time in our lives. She cared for him as if he was her own father and for that we will be eternally grateful. We have wonderful memories of her and my father sharing Greek traditions. She became part of our family and we enjoyed the time God gave us with her. Her smile lit up the room every time she came in. Our hearts are heavy with sadness for her passing but we are grateful for the gifts of love we shared. May her memory be eternal. Cathy Bazdanes

Elena cared for my mother for past few years. Mom loved her companionship and they would have such a good time together. There was lots of smiles and laughs. It's rare that you can find someone so sincere- mom was fortunate to have Elena. My condolences to her husband, children, family & friends.
