Obituary For Elsie A. (Levasseur) Snow
Salem, MA—Elsie A. Snow, aged 102, formerly of Peabody, passed on August 11, 2022, at the Brudnick Center for Living, Lynnfield Street, Peabody, after a short illness.
Born in Grand Isle, Maine, she was the second daughter of the late Willie and Katherine (Soucy) Levasseur. Elsie was raised in Grand Isle with her 8 siblings. Her father was a carpenter and her mother, a teacher. The family spoke Acadian French and Elsie learned English in school, graduating from the 8th grade.
The family eventually moved to Lynn, MA. and Elsie gained employment at General Electric as an accounting clerk. She met her eventual husband, Waldo Snow of Saugus, at GE, where he was a company photographer for the West Lynn plant.
They married in 1950, lived in Lynn, then moved to Peabody where they raised their two children. The family enjoyed extensive traveling in the U.S., visiting such historic places as Fort Ticonderoga, Gettysburg, and Colonial Williamsburg. They camped in New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont, and visited on both sides of the family in Nova Scotia.
Elsie and Waldo also flew to many Paradises, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Hawaii, as well as a road trip to many of the national parks.
Elsie retired from GE after a diagnosis of macular degeneration at the early age of 55. She and Waldo continued to travel and have parties and cook-outs with her siblings and in-laws, which she loved to host
Waldo died in 2003 at 84 and Elsie lived alone for over a decade until she moved into her daughter's home-
Elsie is survived by her son, Ronald Snow and his wife Elaine, of Peabody, and her daughter, Wendy Snow-Lang and her husband, Charles Lang, of Salem, her two grandchildren, Melanie Turner-Snow and her husband, Rob, of Los Angeles, and Justin Snow, of Peabody. Seven of her siblings are deceased, Clifford, Clare, Wilfred, (Gussie). Alphonse, Claude, and Nora. Her sister Patricia resides in Austin, Texas.
A private graveside service will be held at Puritan Lawn Cemetery,185 Lake St. Peabodv. She will be buried next to her husband, and her sister Gussie and Gussie's husband Paul are -also buried next to her. Donations may be made to Perkins School for rhe Blind, 175 N.
