Obituary For Elvira "Vera" Saraceno
Elvira (Vera) Ann Saraceno, 92, of Peabody, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her sons on Sunday August 13, 2023, after courageously battling an illness of double multiple myeloma.
Raised in Everett, Massachusetts, Vera was quite a character. Loved a good laugh and always had a good quip. Family and her close friends enjoyed her great witty humor, compassion, warmth and zest for life.
Born with natural athletic abilities, Vera early on became an accomplished equestrian as a young teenager, riding trails at Breakheart Reservation, even saving up to buy a horse of her own. Those dreams soon changed when she met her future husband; trading in those savings to purchase her wedding dress.
After graduating from Everett High School with honors Vera pursued a business career in finance with IBM and then later with National Company until leaving the workplace to become a traditional homemaker and mom.
Vera actively participated in and had many varied interests, including golfing, bowling tournaments, touch football, volleyball and was even a pitcher on Mario's softball team, sponsored by Brodie's, for over 8 years. She was nicknamed; Crazy Legs, for the way at age 55 she ran the bases. She was a devoted Pats fan from day 1 since they were first founded, pre–Tom Brady era.
Vera also was a devotee of the old TCN classic movies, her nickname Marathon Martha, watching sometimes for long stretches. She also enjoyed American Songbook and contemporary music. She enjoyed traveling, her yearly summers in Maine at the seashore, family dinners and tiki pole evenings on warm summer evenings in her backyard with family and friends.
Vera is survived by her daughter Robin of Florida and son-in- law, Tom Elowson, son, Frank Saraceno, beloved by Sam Call, and her son, Richard Saraceno and granddaughter Kylie Saraceno, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her late husband Frank Saraceno, mother Phyllis Del Gratta, father John Fred Del Gratta and sister Mary Iritano.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday August 18, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Adelaide's Church, Lowell St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St, Peabody.
