Peabody – Francis J. “Frank” Burgess Sr. 79, beloved husband of the late Mary T. (Connarton) Burgess, died Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Peabody.

Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late James B. and Alice M. (Toomey) Burgess. He was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School where he excelled in hockey and football.

Mr. Burgess had been employed for forty-one years as a custodian for the Town of Arlington until the time of his retirement. Prior to that he had worked for Cott Bottling Company in Somerville.

A resident of Peabody for over forty-five years, Frank was an avid sports fan who attended all the sporting events of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also played hockey for a local men’s hockey league. He was a loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by a daughter, Amy Burgess of Peabody, a son, Frank Burgess Jr. and his wife, Traci of Peabody, two grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey Burgess, two sisters, Susan Chin and her husband, Joe of Wilmington and Jane Burgess of Somerville, a brother, James Burgess and his wife, Debbie of CT, two sisters-in-law, Mary Burgess of Belmont and Nancy Monaco-Collins of Peabody, a brother-in-law, Michael Connarton of Everett and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Margaret Donovan, Jack Burgess and Peter Burgess.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody, Friday, August 26, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Conway Cahill Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
