Obituary For Gary R Linehan
Gary R. Linehan, 66, of Peabody, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 20th at the Lahey Clinic in Peabody. He was the beloved husband of Elaine (Sanger) Linehan with whom he shared over 35 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late William and Alice (McCarthy) Linehan. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, class of 1973.
Gary was employed for over 30 years with the United States Postal Service, first as a letter carrier and later as a manager for both the Saugus and Lynn branches before he retired.
Gary was a tremendous athlete and excelled playing baseball, basketball, tennis, and several other recreational sports. Outside of his own athletic career, Gary was a pillar in the Peabody youth sports community as both a coach and official. He had his fondest memories coaching his two sons and their closest friends from a very early age. Subsequent to his sons’ high school careers, Gary served as the Peabody High School pitching coach for ten years. Gary is a member of Peabody High School Athletic Hall of Fame and served on the Hall of Fame committee. He also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and Aruba with his family.
Along with his loving wife, Gary is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Amelia Linehan, Marc and Emily Linehan, his four beloved grandchildren, Mason, Riley, Chase, and Rory, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Sue Linehan, Jeff and Susan Linehan, and James and Kathy Linehan, his mother-in-law, Sandra Sanger, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carl and Val Sanger and Ric and Donna Gaudet, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Linehan, and father-in-law, Allan Sanger.
Following cremation, visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 27th at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM followed by his Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
