Obituary For George P. McCormick

George P. McCormick, 81, of Peabody died peacefully Friday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a three year illness. He was the devoted husband of 57 years to Ruth A. (Crowley) McCormick.

He was born in Medford, MA on April 20, 1928, the son of the late George D. and Loretta U. (Donovan) McCormick and was raised in Malden graduating from Malden Catholic in 1946.

He then entered the US Navy where he served during WW 11 prior to his discharge in 1948.

Returning from the Service he entered Boston College and graduated from there in 1952. He had worked with the Campbell Soup Company for 39 years starting in Sales and rising to account executive prior to his retirement in 1991. George and his wife had resided in South Peabody for over 50 years before moving to Brooksby Village four years ago. They also wintered for many years in North Fort Myers. George had been a manager and coach with the Peabody National Little League for many years.

Surviving him besides his wife are two sons and a daughter-in-law, George D. “Dennis” and his wife Anne of Stoughton, MA and Michael J. McCormick of Melrose, a daughter, Dianne McCormick Pernokis of Plaistow, NH, his six cherished grandchildren, Maribeth Hopkins, Christina and Andrea Pernokis, Sarah, George and Danielle McCormick, his two great grandchildren, Taylor and Connor Hopkins, a sister, Rita Barry of Peabody and many nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Lynn St., Peabody at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of No Shore, 75 Sylvan St. ,Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 in his memory.
