Haverhill – Jan R. Gray, 84, beloved husband of Lois (Emerson) Gray, died peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born and raised in Little Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Ignatz (Grzywaczewski) Gray and Wladyslawa (Borowska) Gray. He first came to the Boston area to study chemistry and biology at Boston College, and never left after meeting Lois on a blind date while doing some post-graduate work at Tufts Dental School. After his first job working for the Jimmy Fund, Jan was employed for many years as quality control manager for the Canada Dry Beverage Company in Waltham followed by similar roles at many other beverage companies including Pepsi, RC Cola and Snapple.

A resident of Waltham and Stow prior to moving to Haverhill fifteen years ago, Jan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife with whom he shared almost sixty years of marriage he is survived by his two daughters, Julie O’Neill and her husband, James of Lynnfield and Nicole Trotman and her husband, Ken of Granby, CT, four grandchildren, Alex Trotman, Rachel Trotman, Connor O’Neill and Camden O’Neill, by his twin sister, Jane Desmond of Blossvale, NY, and many cousins, nieces and nephews -- all of whom he dearly loved.

A caring and generous man, Jan supported many charitable organizations over the years including the Massachusetts Audubon Society, the Greater Boston Food Bank, and the Pine Street Inn. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, his family suggests a donation to one of these organizations in his name.
