Obituary For Jane E Moroney

Danvers – Jane E. (Brudzynski) Moroney, 83, of Hathorne Village in Danvers, died Friday afternoon accompanied by two of her godchildren at Winchester Hospital following a lengthy battle with multiple chronic conditions. She was the devoted and beloved wife of the late James E. Moroney with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Longin Brudzynski and Sabina (Sarnowski) Brudzynski. She graduated from Salem High School and Salem State University (BS and MA in Education). At Salem High she was a majorette and varsity basketball player.

Jane was a legendary elementary school teacher for the City of Salem at the Saltonstall School and the “formula” school located on the Salem State University campus which was established as the source of information to help modernized public education in Massachusetts and train student teachers. Jane was a valued mentor to many student teachers from SSU who became educators. She truly loved her students and co-workers. She and her husband Jim immersed themselves in relationships with those whom they associated with from their Salem and Hathorne neighborhoods, work, and the wide variety of organizations to which they were long-standing members. Together they were active in the Salem State Alumni organization, Babe Ruth Baseball, Polish Russian Lithuanian Club in Danvers, the Danvers Garden Club, and golfing member at the Wenham Country Club. Jane was also in the Massachusetts Federation of Polish Women’s Clubs and the Polish Business and Professional Women’s Club of Greater Boston for whom she served as President.

Jane and Jim opened their lives to others having been named godparents to many and gratuitously orchestrated innumerable life events for those fortunate enough to call them “friends.” The examples of their magnanimous approach to life ranged from the hosting or organizing weekly “Painting Class” sessions, their annual Santa Claus party, the Florida St. Patrick’s Day SSU alumni parade, Halloween parade, the “RV” adventures at Harvard football games, rehearsal parties, snowmobiling at their New Hampshire retreat, showers, graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, and cookouts for no reason. Remarkably their events and travel adventures were chronicled in innumerable photos and film arranged in many albums.

Jane leaves her many godchildren, cousins William Sarnowski of Florida, Theodore Sarnowski of Topsfield, Mary Jane Robarts of Florida, and in-laws Thomas and Janet Moroney of Stow, Massachusetts, and Sister Anne Marie Moroney of New Jersey.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday March 24, 2023 from 9:30 until 11:00 AM followed by her funeral service at 11:00 AM at Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody, MA to which family and friends are kindly invited to attend. The burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.

Expressions of sympathy can be made either to the Polish Russian Lithuanian Club, 12 Cheever Street, Danvers, MA 01923 or the Salem State University Alumni Association, 352 Lafayette Street, Salem, MA 01970.

Mrs. Moroney was instrumental in shaping my young life. She was my second grade teacher at HM South in Salem back in the 1970's. We both came from Polish heritage which gave us a tighter bond than most. She was a great teacher and a creative muse. And, I dare say, she was the closest teacher I'd think of as a friend in as much as an 8 year old could be a friend with a teacher. She was a skilled musician, too. She and I would joke about playing parts on the piano - mainly Polish songs like "Melody of Love". Our Gen-X classrooms were pretty large back then (20-30 students) and Mrs. Moroney had extremely sharp skills. While I was talking with her, she'd constantly move her head, almost birdlike. I found it to be a great affectation when I was young only to realize she was keeping her eye on all of her students at all times as an adult. What a hallmark of an amazing teacher and great person. She and I joked about me turning a "decage" old. While I got to meet back up with another hero teacher of mine, and her close friend, Mr. Rosen, as an adult, the last time I saw Mrs. Moroney was in 1982 at the Salem Polish-American fest. I was only in Middle School at the time but it was wonderful to see her again. Sadly, I wouldn't have the opportunity again. What a tremendous legacy Mrs. Moroney leaves behind - she touched the lives of hundreds and her spirit continues to brighten our lives. Rest in Peace, Mrs. Moroney. - Chris Jarzynka (second grade class 1977-78)

Jane was indeed a gifted teacher! My son, Robert Pelletier, was blessed to have her as a second grade teacher. I remember well volunteering in her classroom while the students presented a play, the Greatest Pumpkin Ever. The children were thoroughly engaged and delighted. I also remember how she would have lunch with individual children in her classroom, how carefully she planned her placements of students when they moved up a grade and her joy! Blessings and love to all her family from Donna, Robert, Bobby and Renee Pelletier

Jane had a wonderful spirit of kindness and joy that was shown in the relatively short time that I knew her. She will be greatly missed. All those affected by her loss, please except my condolences. - Joel (Nurse)

Sharing memories of Jane...I was the lucky one to have Jane as my mentor when I started teaching in Danvers 57 years ago. Jane was the strongest and loudest cheerleader for education and SSU. Jane is synonymous with style-whether in fashion or with her eye-catching bulletin boards. Our paths crisscrossed over the years living in Danvers. We belonged to the St. Mary's Couples Club and also were sports' mates in golf and bowling. Rest in Peace my friend. You are now the J & J team again. Marie Norris 💕xoxo

I am very saddened by the loss of my good friend Jane. She was one of a kind. I spent many good time with her on the golf course in Naples. She told me she liked playing golf with me because I would keep her focused. She was a lot of fun & a good friend. I will miss her.
