Obituary For JoAnn E. (Puleo) Smyrnios

JoAnn E. (Puleo) Smyrnios, 84, of Peabody died on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the NSMC Salem Hospital with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of George Smyrnios. She was born in Salem, MA on October 14, 1937, the daughter of the late Joseph and Veronica (Lastich) Puleo and was a graduate of Peabody High School in the class of 1955.

JoAnn had been employed for twenty years at the former George Peabody Co-operative Bank in Peabody before retiring as a Senior Vice President in 1998.

She then dedicated her life to her family, especially her grandchildren who called her “Grammy” as she watched them playing soccer, hockey and other activities. She loved to cook for the family on the holidays and carried forward Yia-Yia’s famous recipes. She loved taking long walks with her husband George and devoted her entire life and heart to her family. The American Flag also held a very special place in her heart – that place has been passed on to her 4 grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband George, her three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kim Smyrnios of Peabody, Steven and Sondra Smyrnios and Peter and Crystal Smyrnios all of Lynnfield, her precious grandchildren, Kye, Kayla, Khloe and Teya Smyrnios and well as Carl and Dior Serra, and many loving friends and family whose lives she touched dearly.

A private family farewell was held by the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a donation to “Tunnel to Towers Foundation” in her memory and to honor her life “say your words” to your loved ones.
