Obituary For John H. Manning

John H. Manning of Peabody, son of the late Mary T. (O’Rourke) and John H. Manning, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Blueberry Hill surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted and loving son, brother, uncle, and friend.

John was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School, class of 1965 and the Thompson Academy, Boston, class of 1967.

John was an outstanding athlete in high school and prep school excelling in baseball, basketball, and football. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots. He was also a passionate Nascar Race fan.

His love of the outdoors was nurtured from a young age by his parents. He enjoyed summers at Lake Winnipesaukee, swimming, boating and water skiing. His love of nature extended to the pride he had gardening and landscaping his yard.

However, what he enjoyed most was spending time with his family, his childhood Forest Steet pals, and his many friends.

John Retired in 2007 after a 37-year career with the Railroad. He cherished the many friendships he formed there.

John is survived by two sisters, Marilyn Aham of Peabody, and Carol Zook of CA., one brother, Paul Manning and his wife, Sandra of Peabody; his niece, Lynne Bettencourt and her husband, Greg; two nephews, Kevin Aham and his wife, Elana, and Robert Zook and his wife, Angela; and seven great nieces and nephews. John is also survived by his dear friend, Ann Brewer.

ARRANGMENTS: A visitation will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Tuesday, November 30, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by his funeral Service in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923, or to Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road Waltham, MA 02452.

  • My sympathy to Johnny's family. I will never forget all the hugs, the many many laughs we had. You were the sweetest guy I knew. We shared so much, even lunches in Boston when you were working for in town... you at Amtrec and me at the law firm. You were a great guy with so much heart. I am saddened by your death.
