Obituary For John J McGinn, Jr
John J. McGinn, Jr, 93, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Jeanne A. (Marc-Aurele) McGinn.
Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late John J. McGinn, Sr and Anna E. (Connors) McGinn. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1947. He later received his BS from Bentley College and became a Certified Public Accountant.
John was employed with the Internal Revenue Service in the Appeals Division before his retirement. He was a member of the American Institute of CPA’s and a member for over 69 years with the Knights of Columbus, Leo Council 508 in Peabody as well.
Throughout life his passion were his devotion to his family, a concern for his community and his faith in God. He was a lifelong communicant and active member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Peabody and was in the men’s prayer group. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed wintering in Sarasota, Fl.
John is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Julie McGinn and Peter and Jeannette McGinn, all of Peabody, and Paul and Karen McGinn of Concord, his daughter, Mary Roach of Danvers, his brother and sister-in-law, James and Sheila McGinn of Chelmsford, and by his beloved 12 grandchildren, Michael and his wife Valarie, Bridget, Nora, Matthew, Benjamin, Anna, Morris, Daniel, Lydia, Emily, Sarah, and Martin. Besides his loving wife, he was predeceased by his son Michael McGinn, his daughter-in-law, Jan McGinn, son-in-law, Martin Roach and his sister, Marie McGinn.
His funeral will be celebrated on Monday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to St. John the Baptist Parish, 17 Chestnut St. Peabody, MA 01960.
