John J. Riley, 87, of Burlington and formerly longtime resident of Peabody, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 26, 2022, at Life Care Center of Stoneham, MA. He was the devoted husband to Janet (Gayron) Riley, high school sweetheart, for 64 years. John was born in Peabody, MA, March 28, 1935, the son of the late Henry and Agnes (Maney) Riley. He attended Saint Mary’s High School in Lynn and Saint John the Baptist in Peabody. John honorably served his nation in The United States Air Force. He was a graduate of Merrimack College, earning an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering. John was employed as an Electrical Engineer in the semiconductor development labs at GTE Sylvania in Woburn. He spent a significant part of his career in Quality Assurance, earning the Director of Field Services at GTE Government Systems. His entire career with the organization spanned 35 years. He was a lifelong parishioner of Saint John the Baptist Parish in Peabody, MA. John is survived by his loving wife, Janet A. (Gayron) Riley, two daughters, Suzanne Silvagni and husband Marc of Beverly, MA and Alyssa Thompson and husband Christopher of Hopkinton, MA, five grandchildren, Sabrina, Jessica, Jacqueline, Samantha and Holly and sister, Mrs. Martha Smith. He also leaves behind many dear friends. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours, Monday, October 3, 2022, from 4:00-7:00PM at The Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody, MA 01960. A funeral mass will be celebrated, Tuesday at 9AM at Saint John the Baptist Parish, 17 Chestnut St, Peabody, MA. Burial will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery in Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name may be made to Saint John the Baptist Parish, 17 Chestnut St. Peabody, MA 01960.
