Obituary For John T Isom
John T Isom, 86, of Peabody and formerly of Winthrop, died Thursday morning surrounded by his loving family at his home following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Judith (Therrien) Isom with whom he shared over 28 years of marriage.
Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late Kelso and Marie L (Girard) Isom. He was raised and educated in Charlestown and was a graduate of Charlestown High School, class of 1953. He later moved to Winthrop to raise his family and has lived in Peabody for the past 26 years.
Following his high school graduation, he enlisted with the United States Air Force and served during the Koran War until his honorable discharge in 1957. After his discharge from the military, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary E. (Brennan) Isom and settled in Winthrop where they raised their four children and shared over 30 years of marriage. John was employed with Eastern Airlines as a Superintendent at Boston’s Logan Airport for over 30 years before the airline was bought out. After 30 years at Eastern, he embarked on a new career at the former Rainbow Nursing Home in Peabody as a maintenance manager, a career that he enjoyed doing for over 10 years before finally retiring. John was always tinkering in the yard and around his house and one of his favorite expressions, was “Jack of all trades, master of none, often times better than a master of one.” He lived by that motto and was very proud of his skills.
Besides his loving wife, John is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Sandra and Jeffrey Sheehan of Hanover and Nancy Isom of Foxboro, his brother and sisters, Robert Isom, Marion Wood, and Christine Musker, his three stepdaughters, Tammy and Rob Hamilton of Tewksbury, Tracy Brown of Peabody, and Heather and Andre Palomo of Tewksbury, and was a “Great” Pappa to his 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary E. (Brennan) Isom, his two sons, John T. “Jay” Isom, Jr. and Richard W. Isom, his siblings, Laura, Carl, Kelso “Sonny”, Marie, and Ruthie, and by his two stepsons, Ronnie and Bobby Therrien.
