Obituary For John Tsouvalas

Peabody - John Tsouvalas, a father, grandfather, war veteran and proud US citizen, died peacefully at age 92 surrounded by his family.

Born February 20, 1930 in Samos, Greece, John lived through World War II when he became a war refugee. Returning home, he lived through the Greek Civil War and emigrated to the US at age 20.

After being drafted into the US Army during the Korean War, John put himself through night school to become a technical illustrator, working for GE Aerospace for 30 years, where he won multiple awards for his draftsmanship and designs.

He married Diane Pappas in 1968 and together had two sons, Dean and Alex. He lost his wife Diane in 1992. A decade later, John married Virginia Angelakis, with whom he happily spent the last 20 years of his life. They resided together in Peabody MA. John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; his son, Dean Tsouvalas; Dean’s wife, Sarah; his son, Alex Tsouvalas; Alex’s wife, Paula Mathieu; and four grandchildren whom he adored: Christopher, Margo, Hannah and Delia. His brother, George, niece, Yolanda, and nephew, Kostas, will mourn him from Greece. John was predeceased by his brother, Kyriakos. He is survived by two stepsons: Michael Angelakis and his wife, Christine their children Demetra, Luke and Marker; George Angelakis and his wife, Cheryl, and their children, Amanda Rana, Garrett, Katie and great-grandson, Cain. John will be missed by many cousins, their children and grandchildren who loved him as well.

ARRANGEMENTS: A visiting hour will be held at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, Friday morning, February 3, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a service in the church at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos Street, Peabody, MA 01960. (www.stvasilios.org).
