Jose R. Tavares, 87, of Peabody, MA, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Beverly Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Maria Etelvina Tavares. Jose was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, December 28, 1934, the son of the late, Manuel and Maria (Rodrigues) Tavares. He was raised and educated in Sao Miguel, Azores, later serving in the Portuguese Armed Forces for two years. Jose moved to Massachusetts in 1980 where he was employed as a Contractor for several years before his retirement. He was devoted to his faith and was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, MA. Jose was an accomplished musician that played several instruments and loved to entertain his family by playing Christmas carols on the harmonica and accordion. He enjoyed time with family and especially loved his children, grandchildren great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. Jose is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Maria, two sons, Jose Rodrigues of Peabody, and Carlos Rodrigues Peabody, four daughters, Cidalia Carvalho of Sao Miguel, Azores, Paula Jardim and husband Luis of Peabody, Theresa Goyette and husband Dan of Travelers Rest, SC, Maria Cecilia Poulos, and husband Jeff of Medford NJ. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and brother Gabriel Tavares. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours, Monday, September 19, 2022, from 4:00-7:00 PM at The Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody, MA 01960. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church 50 Walsh Ave. Peabody, MA 01960. Burial will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery in Salem, MA.
