Josephine (Gabalis) Batakis passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, peacefully in her sleep at the age of 100. Josephine was born June 17, 1921, in Wakefield MA to Frank and Lucy (Vanagas) Gabalis.

She is predeceased by her husband Alphonse and brother Albert Gabalis. She graduated from Mass College of Art in 1942 and went to work as an artist designing everything from greeting cards to contemporary fashions. In 1950 she married the love of her life Alphonse and settled in Peabody in 1953 where they built their home and raised a wonderful family. Four children, Christine Batakis Carroll and her companion Michael Goodwin, Paul Batakis, John and his wife Tracey Batakis, Alan and his wife Sandra Batakis. Nine grandchildren, Christopher, Michael and his wife Hannah, Steven (deceased), Alexis, Ashley and Samantha Batakis and Matthew, Julie and Meaghan Carroll. Two great-grandchildren, Finley and Jameson Batakis. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. Over her 100 years she made an enormous number of friends and was loved by all.

A Visitation will be held on Friday December 17, from 4 until 7 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 8 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., West Peabody at 9 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. All those attending the Funeral Mass at St. Adelaide’s are required to wear facial coverings.
