Obituary For Juventino Vasconcelos
Peabody - Juventino S. Vasconcelos, age 94, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Juventino was born on November 6, 1928 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and was the son of the late Francisco da Silva Vasconcelos and Maria De Jesus Lobao. He was married to Aureolinda (Morais) Vasconcelos with whom he would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on November 19, 2023. While in Graciosa, he was a farmer and worked alongside his family.
Juventino emigrated to the U.S. with his family on March 18, 1975, settling in Peabody, MA. He worked in the leather tanneries until he retired and prided himself in being a hard-worker. He and his wife would return to Graciosa every year where they would spend all of their summers until 2021, and where he loved attending and watching the bullfights. In his free time, he enjoyed tending to his garden and grape vines. He loved making homemade wine every fall and having family and friends over to share a glass of his wine. He loved to be surrounded by his family, especially his granddaughters and great grandkids, and having get togethers any chance he could.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children - Mario Vasconcelos and his wife, Maria Filomena Vasconcelos, of Lowell, MA, and Maria Guadalupe Ataide and her husband, Aristides Ataide, of Peabody, MA; his four granddaughters - Jenny DiGiacomo and her husband, Anthony DiGiacomo, of Tewksbury, MA; Christina Fernandes and her husband, Luis Fernandes, of Dracut, MA, Brenda Furtado and her husband, Tony Furtado, of Pelham, NH, and Stephanie Duarte and her husband, Zachary Duarte, of Lowell, MA; his eight great-grandchildren – Dahlia, Antonio and Bella Furtado, Adrianna and Gabriella DiGiacomo, Julian, Alana and Xavier Fernandes; his siblings – Arlindo Vasconcelos and his wife, Ivone, of Graciosa, Celestino Vasconcelos of Graciosa, Maria De Fatima Gil of Lowell, MA, his sisters-in-law, Maria Oldemira DeVasconcelos of Lowell, MA and Maria Teresina Vasconcelos of Peabody, MA; his two godsons – Manuel Eduardo Morais of Haverhill, MA, and Jeffrey DeVasconcelos of Lowell, MA, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Florentino DeVasconcelos, Valentim Vasconcelos; his sisters, Leontina Vasconcelos, Idalina Morais and Almerinda Morais; his brothers-in-laws, Eduardo Morais and Reginaldo Gil, his sister-in-law, Valentina Vasconcelos, his father-in-law, Joao da Cunha Morais, and mother-in-law, Maria Augusta de Melo.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody, Monday, September 11, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. Visiting hours at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Juventino’s memory to the Holy Ghost Society Cultural Center, 20 Howley Street, Peabody, MA 01960.
