Obituary For Karen Callahan Weeden

Peabody - Karen Callahan Weeden, age 61, passed away after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma on October 30, 2021, surrounded by her family. Born June 14, 1960; Karen was the youngest child of the late Jack and Jody Callahan of Marblehead. Karen is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 23 years, David Weeden, cherished and adored son, Spencer Weeden, dearest stepson, Zachary Weeden and his partner, Amber Edwards, and her pups, Honey and Sadie.

Karen leaves her brother and sisters, Kevin Callahan of Swampscott, Kendall Clark and her spouse, William, Kristin Callahan and her spouse, Jane Muller, Kyle Wiley and her spouse, William all of Marblehead along with her loving nieces and nephews, Libby Kelley and her spouse, Sean, Anna Georges, Emma and Jesse Wiley, Katie and Abby Callahan-Muller and great niece and nephew, Flynn and Maisie Kelley all of Marblehead, loving Aunt, Ellen Callahan of Dennis and many caring Callahan and O’Brien cousins.

She also leaves her in laws, Janet Darlington, Elaine LeBlanc and her husband, Michael, Bonnie Teixeira and her husband Frank, Larry Weeden and his wife, Cheryl, Kenny Weeden and Christopher Weeden and nieces and nephews, Kara, Rachel and Jessica Weeden, Samson LeBlanc, Jill Teixeira, Katie and Justin Provencher and Samantha Weeden. Karen was predeceased by her father-in- law, Benjamin Weeden, mother-in-law, Joan Weeden and nephew, Jamie Darlington.

Karen grew up in Marblehead, MA. She is a graduate of Our Lady Star of the Sea School, Marblehead High School and the University of New Hampshire. She worked for many years at Delta Airlines and later at EBSCO Information Services.

Karen was the youngest of the 5 Callahan kids, Karen didn’t always get as much say about things, but she went along happily with the gang. This may have contributed to her easy-going nature and ability to be such a good listener. Growing up, Karen was a dedicated swimmer with the Elks, Corinthian and JCC swim teams for many years. A highlight of her UNH experience was the exchange program in Valencia, Spain which truly awakened her travel bug. Karen had a dream of swimming in all the world’s oceans and seas, but one day after transferring to a new department at Delta she met the love of her life, David. They tied the knot in Jamaica a few years later and Karen was blessed with not only Dave but also her wonderful stepson Zack. This happy family became complete a few years later when Spencer was born. Spencer was the greatest gift and treasure in Karen’s life; no mother and son could have been closer than these two.

Karen shared her abundant love with her extended family and dear friends. Holidays, concerts, trips with friends up north, family vacations to Disney and the Caribbean could never have been as much fun without Karie Jo.

Karen had an amazing gift for making her family and friends feel special and loved, like they were the most important person in the room. Her generous and kind soul was a blessing to all who came to know Karen. She remained close with her sisters from MHS Class of 78’, Debbie, Jane, Julie, Mary Lou, Robin and Stephanie, her travel sisters, Ellie and Sandi, besties Mary and Kevin and Delta friends Brenda, Helene and Lillian. The past 16 months has brought this circle closer together and forever joined; we will each carry Karen’s love in our hearts always.

I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Karen's passing. I worked with her at EBSCO and while we didn't work together on a daily basis, whenever I did cross paths with her, she was always pleasant. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

It is with a broken heart that I say farewell to my good friend, Karen, who fought bravely against the fierce cancer, glioblastoma. A devoted mother, a loving wife, a priceless sister and the most genuine of friends, Karen was the "total package" - kind, smart, warm, practical, classy, interesting, fair, supportive and loyal. My travel abroad buddy and first "out on our own" roommate, we created memories never to be forgotten. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her, and hold a place in my heart forever.

I am so saddened by the news of the recent passing of my wonderful class of '78 classmate Karen Callahan. She was a truly wonderful person to so many and I feel so lucky I not only got to go to high school with her but I was able to visit her in Valencia, Spain during a festival and her dear mother was there also. We had a wonderful visit and it was a cherished memory. A wise and wonderful cherished friend. I am so sorry to the entire Weeden and Callahan family for this difficult loss.
