Obituary For Karen L. McGrath

Peabody – Karen Lee McGrath 74, beloved wife of Alan McGrath, died Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston surrounded by her family.Born in Miami, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth E. (Goodwin) Murphy. She was raised in Lynn, graduated from Lynn English High School, class of 1963 and earned her degree as a registered nurse from the Lynn Hospital School of Nursing in 1966. Mrs. McGrath had been employed for fifteen years as a registered nurse at the Mass General Hospital in Boston until the time of her retirement. Prior to that she had worked for thirteen years at All Care VNA in Lynn and twenty-five years at Lynn Hospital. A longtime resident of Peabody, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and was an avid shopper on QVC. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her husband with whom she shared fifty-two years of marriage, she is survived by three sons, Mark McGrath and his wife, Boots of Boxford, Kevin McGrath and his wife, Julie of Peabody and Jason McGrath and his wife, Sherry of Peabody, seven grandchildren, Jackie, Joshua, Joseph, Jared, Jill, Brianna and Kaleigh, two brothers, Robert Murphy and his wife, Barbara of Peabody and David Murphy of Georgia and several nieces and nephews. ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. to which Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. At the request of the family, please omit flowers. Contributions may be made in Karen’s memory to Lynn Hospital School of Nursing, c/o Andrea Dupuis, 174 Maple St., Lynn, MA 01904.

    I miss her. She gave the best hugs. I'll never forget the kindness, empathy and love she showed me, and the rest of my family. The squash pie tradition was the best. Much love to all of you guys. Wish I could be there to give you a hug in person.

    Karen was one of my best friends in nursing school. We had a great class that supported each other thru thick & thin. I'll miss her, her laugh & that beautiful smile. It's hard to lose such a good person. Rest in peace my friend.
