Obituary For Katharine B. Ray

Peabody - Katharine Brady (Nolan) Ray, 92, of Peabody, died Sunday after a brief illness. The daughter of Henry and Marguerite “Birdie” Nolan, Kathy was raised in South Peabody, attending the Brown School and St. Johns High School, graduating with the class of 1947. She graduated from Fisher Junior College and not long after, began working at Eastman Gelatin Corporation in Peabody. The company was a good fit for Kathy as she spent the majority of her working life there, retiring at the end of a forty-year career.

A life-long learner, she enjoyed travel, skiing, golf and any adventurous opportunity that came her way. Whether it was yoga, a cross-country road trip or whitewater rafting, she was game for anything. She shared this love for life and adventure with her seven nieces and nephews who were all introduced to skiing thanks to her as well as many sharing their first plane ride and international travel with their beloved Auntie Kath.

In 2006, Kathy married her dear friend and companion, Leslie Ray, starting a new adventure with her husband. They enjoyed gathering with friends at their regular restaurants around the North Shore and traveling to Maine in the warm months and Florida in the winter. Some of Kath’s favorite memories were with Les on their beloved Sanibel Island. They moved into Brooksby Village where they were reacquainted with old friends and had the opportunity to meet new friends.

Kath was predeceased by her husband, parents and her siblings, Joyce Crowley, Marygrace Tracchia and Dick Nolan. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Neil Crowley and Marilyn Haugen, Paul and Julie Crowley, Bob Crowley and Sandra Bayley, Mary and Jerry Feltault, David Tracchia, Kate and Kevin O’Malley and Amy Tracchia. The next generation of grandnieces and grandnephews who will treasure her memory include Joe Tracchia and Shea Williams, Mark Tracchia, Patrick and Katie Crowley, Kaitlin and Tom Maybury and their daughter, Nora, Bobby Feltault, Julie and Jesse Mason and their son Mac Henry, Timothy Crowley, Daniel Crowley, Maura Feltault, Emily Feltault, Olivia Tracchia, Leah Crowley, Noah Crowley and Lily O’Malley. She also leaves behind her stepchildren David and Debbie Ray and Betsy and Brad Shelley and their children Alex and Andrew Ray and Deanna and Jackie Gamache.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held at the Brooksby Village Chapel, 100 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be private. Arrangements by the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in Kathy’s name.

Condolences

My sincere condolences to the family on your loss. My mother (Marguerite Carney) and Kathy met in the 7th grade and were lifelong friends. They shared many travel and skiing adventures together in their youth, and reconnected in later years at the gym in Beverly. My mom passed in 2018, but I know she would want me to express the love and affection she felt for Kathy. She always spoke fondly of her. I hope they are reconnecting in heaven and sharing laughs once again. Rest In Peace. — Cathy Daley
