Obituary For Kathryn C Tucker

KATHRYN C. TUCKER, 68 of South Yarmouth, formerly of the North Shore, passed away peacefully with her husband and family by her side on January 2, 2023, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born on January 20, 1954, in Albany NY, she was the daughter of Ed and Veronica Koelsch. Kathryn leaves her beloved husband of 35 years, Richard Tucker. She leaves sisters Carol, Joani, Susan and brother Ed. She also leaves her nieces Jenny, Jeanne and Dawn, nephews Mike Tucker, Mike Terrill and Mike Randlett and many great nieces and nephews.

Kathryn early on was a boat captain working passenger ferries and cruises in Boston Harbor. She grew up in Dorchester and always loved Boston, especially the Waterfront and North End. Later, she earned an undergraduate degree at UMass Boston and her Master’s in Education from Boston College.

She loved to teach and spent years teaching special needs children in Saugus and Melrose and Haverhill School systems. One of her great loves was outer Cape Cod from an early age. She and her husband Rich moved to the cape and enjoyed 20 years enjoying Mayflower beach, Ptown and all nature spots the Cape offers. Very special to Kathryn were all her many new Cape Cod friends. She always loved to help and share with her friends who gave her more joy in return. She will be dearly missed by many.

Her funeral services were held privately. Expressions of sympathy can be made in her name to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451-1991.

Kathryn and her family lived next door to me in Dorchester in the 1960s. We had a close-knit group of friends who spent many happy days hanging out and navigating life. We lost touch for a while, but rekindled the friendship when we both lived on Cape Cod. Our spouses became friends as well, and we all shared great conversations and nice memories. Kathryn was someone who was always curious, kind optimistic, even when life became challenging. She will be missed and remembered fondly.
