Obituary For Kenneth G Webster

Kenneth G. Webster of Peabody passed away on Monday, January 16 at the age of 79, surrounded by his loved ones, after a brief illness at Massachusetts General Hospital. Known as ‘Papa Ken’, he was a resident of Peabody for many years while his daughters were in school, later returning after retirement.

Born in Brockton, MA, Ken was the son of the late George and Adeline Webster. He was raised in Braintree and received his culinary education at Cornell University. Ken had a long career with the Marriott Corporation, traveling the world for his work in the airline industry. His longest tenure was in Boston serving as General Manager of the Inflight catering division for Marriott at Logan Airport. He was honored by then Governor Michael Dukakis for being the #1 employer in the State of special needs employees at his facility at Logan Airport. His heart for all people was big and unlimited. After retirement, he became a very dedicated and compassionate Meals on Wheels driver in Peabody for the Council on Aging. He later worked as a front desk receptionist keeping a watchful eye on many new friends and clients.

Ken was loved by many and made a long-lasting impact with everyone he encountered. He had an infectious smile that would light up the room. He had a great love and dedication for his family. Ken loved his time with his grandchildren, especially cheering them on at their various sporting events or trips to the movies with RyGuy. His other hobbies were cooking, reading and word puzzles. He enjoyed menu planning and ‘helping’ Sandra with the cooking!

Ken is survived by his daughter Erica Barrett and her husband Matt, daughter Jennifer O’Connor and husband Joe and his companion & best friend, Sandra Cloutman, his pride and joy, grandchildren Jake, Ryan, Danny and Madi, former wife Carol Costa and her husband Chris, sister Pauline Garron, nieces and nephew – Nelson Family (Paulette, Steve, Michael and Jeffrey), de Silva Family (Michele, Peter, Sarah & Christine), Garron Family (Ken, Cindy and Alex) - and many friends and loved ones.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. His Funeral Service for family and close friends will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Erica, Jennifer, Sandra and family(s), I am so sorry for your loss. I am saddened that I just found out about Ken's passing and missed his services and thus being able to show my respect to a man that had a tremendous impact on me. Mr. Webster hired me to my 1st job out of college in 1985 at Marriott in Flite at Logan. He was the BEST leader that I have ever worked for and with. He was someone that I looked up to as a mentor and I have never forgotten the values he taught me - respect, trust and loyalty. He was a gentlemen and a true friend. RIP Boss. Ken Runge
