Obituary For Leonard Kaplan

Leonard Kaplan, 96, of Danvers, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Brightview Senior Living in Danvers. He was the loving husband of Ruthe A. Kaplan with whom he shared 73 years of marriage prior to her passing in November 2021.

Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Robert and Eva (Berman) Kaplan. The family moved to Winthrop, taking up residence on Mermaid Ave. He was one of two children, predeceased by his older sister, Doris known as DoDo. He graduated Winthrop High School, class of 1943.

When World War II broke out, he proudly served his country by joining the United States Navy and became a sonarman on a minesweeper seeing combat in both Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

Upon returning from the War, he met Ruthe Holsberg in 1946 and married in 1948 Lenny, as he was known, worked for peerless clothing where he was an outside salesman representing Ralph Lauren and Pierre Cardin menswear to New England and upper state New York retail customers. He was consistently the number one sales rep.

Leonard enjoyed gardening and golfing. He was a sun worshipper who loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed cooking and was an avid reader. Mr. Kaplan was also a talented woodworker. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time at home with his beloved family. He was a devoted husband, father, known by his grandchildren as “Grumpa”, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Surviving him are his three children, Jeffrey Kaplan and his wife Janice of Peabody, Sandra Kaplan and her husband, Scott Dunn of Peabody, and Robert Kaplan and his wife Nancy of Hingham; his grandchildren, Tova Frost, Francesca Harris, Kristie Lee Miles, Nikki Palazzolo, Tyler Kaplan, Timothy Kaplan, and Steven Kaplan; his 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A visiting hour will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. followed by a service in the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leonard may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
