Obituary For Lucille M Ferranti

Lucille M. (Ciampa) Ferranti, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph R. Ferranti, Sr.

Born in Boston on June 1, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Mary (Ricci) Ciampa. She was raised in East Boston and graduated from Girls High School in 1950.

As a child, she was fortunate to travel to many destinations with her parents such as Niagara Falls each year, family time at their summer home at Point Shirley in Winthrop and taking several European vacations aboard the well-known Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth Ocean liners. Lucille’s love for travel aspired her to pursue a career as an airline stewardess, however, as a loving and devoted mother, she chose marriage and family over career. Her travel bug continued with her own family taking yearly Florida vacations. Lucille’s lifelong best friend of 77 years is Rose D. Vaccaro of East Boston. For 41 years, the two had enjoyed travelling to Las Vegas with each other and had a lot of fun.

In 1967, Lucille settled with her family in Peabody. She was an accomplished cook to say the least. She learned from the best which was family heritage. She proudly passed on her cooking skills to her children and grandchildren and to others who would ask for her recipes. “Nonna’s meatballs” are top on the list. Saturday trips to the North End butcher, pastry shops, etc. were necessary to gather the goods in preparation of her elaborate spreads that took place at the family home. The aroma of her cooking filled the house. Sunday dinners as a family and holiday gatherings will go down in history at the Ferrante residence. Lucille would feed anyone and everyone that came to her home, and someone always showed up. There was no such thing as refusal when she offered food. It didn’t matter what time of the day, even after midnight, if people were hungry, she was preparing meals for them. Her tireless, unselfish efforts, her abundant love, care, kindness, and generosity to see her family happy is all she ever wanted. She put everyone before herself because it was important for her to take care of others first. These and so many other traits about her are what made her such an incredibly special person.

After her children grew up, Lucille was later employed with Filenes Department store in Peabody for almost 30 years where she made great friends and had a lot of laughs.

She is survived by one daughter, Roseann L. Ferrante, and four sons, Joseph Jr., John, Richard, and Stephen and his wife Lisa, all from Peabody. She is the loving Nonna to ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also predeceased by her brothers, George, John B. Jr., and Frances R. Ciampa. At Lucille’s request, there will be no services.

In 1974, when I was 15, our family flew to Boston to visit and have Thanksgiving with you! It is my most fond memory of you all. Thanksgiving dinner went on for 8 hours! I had never seen anything like it before...the amount of food that was served was mind-blowing! There was fun, and merriment and lots of storytelling. Appetizers and drinks, turkey and all the trimmings, pasta, nuts, items to cleanse our palettes, and dessert! Aunt Lucille spent all day (and the day before, in the kitchen and was in her element. It was insane and I will never know how our tummies held it all! Simply the best meal I have ever or probably will ever have in my life!!! And best of all, I got to know all my family so much better. Familia, my Dad would say, it's everything! And he was right! Much love to you all! 💔 ♥️
