Obituary For Manuel B Braz

Manuel B Braz, 89, of Peabody, died Monday evening surrounded by his loving family at his home following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Maria (da Silva Picanco) Braz with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.

Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Manuel and Olivia Libia de S. João. He was raised in Portugal and immigrated with his family to the United States in 1969 and has been a resident of Peabody for the past 54 years.

Manuel was a machine operator for Bicknell & Fuller for over 26 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Society and long time communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and helped often in the kitchen for various activities held at the church hall. He also enjoyed gardening and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Boston Bruins.

Besides his devoted wife of 68 years, Manuel is survived by his children, Mary Lou and her husband José da Silva, Fernando and his wife Pamela Braz, Helder and his wife Karen Braz, and Gina and her husband José Rocha, all of Peabody and is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Maria Lourdes Santos.

Visiting hours will be held on his 68th wedding anniversary on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.

Donations can be made in his name to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave, Peabody, MA 01960.

So sorry for such a family loss. I always enjoyed visiting the Braz home where Mr & Mrs Braz always made me feel so welcomed. Although I do not speak Portuguese, I always felt I could understand Mr Braz and was quite entertained by him! I especially enjoyed and had a good laugh with Mr Braz when he would offer me some of that special Portuguese grape juice after running with Fernando. Fond memories! Rest In Peace Mr Braz! 🙏
