Obituary For Manuel S Galopim
Manuel S Galopim, 82, of Peabody, died Tuesday April 25, 2023, surrounded by his family at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Noreen (Simas) Galopim with whom he shared over 56 years of marriage. Born in Portugal, he was the son of the late Francisco and Elisa (Sousa) Galopim. He immigrated to the United States in 1960 and lived in Cambridge for 11 years before moving to Peabody in 1971 where he has been a resident for over 50 years. In 1971, Manuel purchased the Continental Bakery on Foster Street in Peabody and was the proprietor until 1983 when he sold the business. He then purchased two Dunkin Donuts in Danvers and throughout the years he acquired three more. After 37 years of operating the franchise he sold and officially retired in 2021. Manuel loved the outdoors, especially working in his garden. Additionally he was fond of music. Manny’s days in Portugal were often spent playing the trumpet in his village band. Later in life he enjoyed dancing, playing the hermonica and entertaining family and friends. Manuel was also a devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima choir. Perhaps what mattered the most to him was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and sharing in all their activities. He will be dearly missed by all. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his three children, Elisa Colella of Middleton, Laura Galopim of Lexington, and David Galopim of Peabody, his son-in-law Anthony, daughter-in-law Stacey, brother Frank and his wife Joaquim Galopim of Portugal, his sister Connie and her husband Antonio Pina of FL, sister-in-law, Jackie Galopim of Peabody, also by his beloved six grandchildren, Justin, Nina, Joseph, Shea, William, and Jason, and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws of the Galopim and Simas Families.Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave, Peabody. At the request of the family, all those attending the funeral mass are kindly invited to go directly to the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave, or the Holy Ghost Society, 20 Howley St, Peabody, MA 01960.
