Obituary For Maria Conceicao Bettencourt

Maria Conceicao (Silva) Bettencourt, 88, of Peabody, died unexpectedly on Saturday at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late John Silva Bettencourt.

Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Germano and Carlota Isabel (da Cunha) Silva. She was raised and educated in Portugal and then immigrated to the United States in 1967 and has been a resident of Peabody for the past 54 years. Maria was a long-time member of the Holy Ghost Society and Our Lady of Fatima Church as well.

Maria is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rui and Maria Candido Bettencourt of Peabody, her six daughters and sons-in-law, Maria Connie Bettencourt of Salem, Maria and Michael Malagodi of Methuen, Lucy Quadros of Peabody, Maria Fatima Metchear of Naples, FL, Rita C and Richard Manley of Hollis, NH, and Lisa and James McGrath of Peabody, her sister, Maria Benigna Terra of RI, her 16 grandchildren, Stephen, Johnathan, Brian, Michael, Meghan, Sarah, Cassidy, Marina, Corey, Mia, Julia, Connor, Kyle, Kathleen, Ryan, and Dylan, her 11 great grandchildren, Johnathan, Kallie, Maeve, Eva, Olivia, Aidan, Lucas, Remi, Aria, Charlotte, and Alice. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her loving husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Jose, Anselmo, and Humberto Silva.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody followed by her Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
