Maria E.Carva (Lila) 92, of Peabody, died Wednesday evening surrounded by her family at the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Alberto Carva.

Born in Mangualde, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Jacinta (Lopes) Jorge. She was raised and educated in Portugal and has lived in Peabody for over 35 years. Maria was a seamstress for over 29 years at New England Sportswear before retiring years ago. Following her retirement, she volunteered at the Torigian Center in Peabody for several years after her retirement,

Maria is survived by her grandson, Charles Carva, her God Daughter, Lisdalia, and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons, Carlos and Antonio Carva, her brothers, Jose and Fernando Jorge and by her sister, Maria Elizena Portela.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
