Obituary For Maria N. Alex

Peabody - Maria N. Alex, 93, beloved wife of Charles D. Alex, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, December 12, 2021. Born in Kalamata, Greece, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Elpida (Sofronas) Paraskevopoulos.

She emigrated from Greece in 1957 and married Charles on May 30, 1959. They moved to West Peabody in 1960 to be in the same neighborhood as her sister and lifelong best friend, Anna with her husband, late Demetrios Zaimes.

For over 4 decades, Maria worked as an accomplished seamstress and tailor. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She could never get enough of flowers and gardening. She enjoyed traveling to Greece often to visit with family and warm destinations in the Caribbean. She is remembered for her warm smile and kind demeanor. Maria was a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church and enjoyed the community of her fellow parishioners.

For her children, they are grateful for instilling in them a strong work ethic and the importance of family.

Maria will be missed by all who knew her. Besides her loving husband, Charles, she is survived by her two children, James Alex and his wife, Michaela of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Paula Soteropoulos and her husband, Takis of Peabody, her two grandchildren, Alexia Soteropoulos and Charlie Alex; her sisters, Anna Zaimes of Peabody and Themis Karabagia of Greece, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Georgios Paraskevopoulos and her sister, Sofia Paraskevopoulos, both of Greece. The family is most grateful to the loving care and adoration for the past few years provided by Liana Kamkamidze, keeping both Maria and Charles thriving in their home.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, on Friday at 1:00 p.m. Relates and friends are invited to attend. Sadly, we can not join the Alex family in person to celebrate the life of Maria, however it is no reflection of our lack of love for their son Jim or the entire Alex family during this difficult time. We never had the honor of meeting Maria, however there is no doubt that she was special, as she raised a very special son. Good bless Maria and the entire Alex family.
