Obituary For Mary Joan (Meoli) Hanson
Mary J. (Meoli) Hanson, 93, of Lynnfield passed away at home on Monday, December 12th.
Mary was born Marianina Meoli in Montemiletto, Italy on November 12, 1929 and was always proud to have entered the U.S. through Ellis Island as a baby. She was a proud American with Italian roots. She was the daughter of Antonio and Giovannina (Censale) Meoli and grew up in Revere as the eldest of seven children. She helped take care of her siblings as they grew up; the loving care of her youngest sister, Jean Courtois, was one of the reasons she was able to remain at home as her strength failed.
While working as a nurse's aide following graduation from Revere High School, she met Arthur (Hank) H. Hanson, Jr., who was headed to the Philippines at the end of World War II. They married June 26, 1949 and were married for 68 years before Hank's death in 2017. Together, they operated a successful materials handling equipment business, H & H Industrial Service, Inc., for more than 45 years. Mary was the bookkeeper and kept impeccable records.
Following retirement, Mary took up golf and enjoyed many fine friendships with members of The Thomson Club that outlasted her ability to complete a round of golf.
Mary was Mom to two sons, Grandma to seven grandchildren and Gigi to six great-grandchildren. She was fiercely loyal to all she loved and she was fiercely loved in return. She will be remembered always as a woman with a personality as bright as her fashion sense. If you saw an elderly woman at the mall with a shiny gold coat, sequined silver slippers, rhinestone barrette and a bright smile, you may have seen Mary.
Mary is survived by her children, Arthur (Skip), III (m. Linda) and Eric (m. Carolyn), grandchildren, Laura, Beth, Kate, Cory (m. Kasper) Burgerhout, Eric, Jr. (m. Lindsey), Peter (m. Liz), and Jeff. Great-grandchildren are Emily, Connor, Daisy and Violet Hanson, Annette and Jack Burgerhout, her brother Anthony Meoli of Maryland and her sister Jean Courtois. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Hank, and her siblings Rico Meoli, Susan Vertullo, Rita LaCroix, and Joey Meoli.
A memorial service will be held Friday, at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody on Friday, December 16th at 11:30 am. Friends and relatives welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Mary's favorite charity, St. Jude's. Children Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org) .
