Danvers - Nikolaos (“Niko”) Spiridon Korkaris, beloved husband of Maria (Theodorou) Korkaris, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 at his home in Danvers, MA on January 19, 2023. Niko was born on June 10, 1925 as the youngest of 5 children to Spiridon and Amalia Korkaris in Dervicani, Albania. As a young man, Niko moved to Greece where he met his wife Maria and began their family. They moved to America in 1959 and initially lived in Peabody before moving to Salem and ultimately settling in Danvers, where they have been residents for 41 years now.

Niko worked in factories prior to entering the restaurant business. Niko and Maria owned several successful pizzerias. After retiring, Niko loved to challenge his mind and could always be found trying to “fix” things, whether it be a lawnmower, washer/dryer machine, or anything he could fit in his workspace, even well into his nineties. Niko also greatly enjoyed taking daily car rides with Maria, listening and singing along to music from their home villages and enjoying meals at some of their favorite restaurants, including McDonald’s and Wendy’s. He loved cooking meals for the family and is widely known for his “Pappou’s Macaronia.”

In addition to his wife Maria and his family, Niko’s great love was his religion and faith. Niko was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian and a long-standing member of Saint Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church. He especially enjoyed his twenty-five year role as a chanter, which continued every Sunday and holiday into the final year of his life. Niko would routinely record Church services and listen to the recordings in his spare time to see any improvements or changes in his chanting that he could make in order to best serve God and the Church. He was very generous and supportive of his family and many people in the community without wanting any recognition or asking for anything in return.

Niko is survived by his loving wife who he was utterly devoted to for 67 years, Maria. He is also survived by two daughters, Amalia Korkaris of Danvers and Zwitsa Joyce Kachinski and husband Kenneth, of Danvers. Niko was the proud “Pappou” (grandfather) of six: Christopher Kachinski and wife Nikki, Michael Kachinski and wife Amanda, Eleni Kalafatis and partner William Choe, Maria Kachinski and fiance Christopher Dimitrakopoulos, Christina Kalafatis, and Angelina Finley and husband Andrew. He was an even prouder “Mega Pappou” (great-grandfather) of six: Elizabeth, Nikolas, Chase, Brielle, and Natalie Kachinski as well as Vaia Finley. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law and multiple nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grandnephews in the United States, Greece, Albania, and Australia. Niko will be greatly missed by all and we pray his memory will be eternal.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
