Obituary For Nikolaos Solomos

Nikolaos Solomos, 83, of Salem, passed Thursday evening surrounded by his family at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Flora (Droggitis) Solomos with whom he shared over 56 years of marriage.

Born in Zakynthos, Greece, he was the son of the late Antonios and Angelikki (Grampsas) Solomos. He was raised, educated and worked in Greece for Izola manufacturing but later immigrated to Salem, MA in 1966.

A carpenter by trade, Nikolaos worked independently and successfully throughout Essex County where he left his craftsmanship on numerous homes and businesses. He enjoyed traveling to Florida months at a time to spend beach moments with his daughter and son-in-law. A jovial man of not many words, his inner charisma and charm brought smiles to those around him. In his later years, his passion was family and friends who kept him busy as he always made extra time to spend precious moments with his granddaughter - who was his pride and joy.

Besides his loving wife, Nikolaos is survived by his two daughters, Maria Solomos of Gloucester and Angela Solomos-Hare along with her husband Jay Hare in Belleair, FL, his sister Anastasia Mataragas of Salem and his beloved granddaughter Ava Solomos. He leaves an extended family of brother and sister in-laws with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins from the North Shore, California, Australia, and Greece.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by his Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
