Obituary For Philip J. Smigliani
Peabody - Philip Smigliani, 85, of Peabody, MA, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2021. Best known for his generous offers to help friends, family, and neighbors as well as his sarcastic charm and never-ending list of one-liners that have become a part of everyday vocabulary to those who loved him most.
Born to Gildo and Sophie (Rambis) Smigliani in Peabody, MA. Phil is survived by his wife, Eileen (Campbell), three children, Jane Nickolas, Lisa Audesse and Philip Smigliani Jr, five grandchildren, Amy (Borr) Bean, Amanda Audesse, Eric Borr, Philip Smigliani III and Katelyn Audesse and great-grandchild, Nickolas Bean, as well as his close cousin, Carol Swiniarski.
Philip (Phil, Smig, Dad, Grampy) enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating high school and served for years, where he met his best friend, Charles “Snowy” Snow. After serving, he spent the rest of his career at GE Aviation in Lynn, MA where he worked his way up to a Quality Control Engineer and retired early to spend time with his family. He was always just a phone call away. When he wasn’t bringing his grandchildren to school or driving them to dance, gymnastics, horseback riding lessons and football practice, he was always “somewhere in New England” which was code for working with his other best friend, Dave Blaine, as a woodworker or Joe McCall as a carpenter. He enjoyed crafting cabinetry and puttering in his workshop.
Smig was a longtime member of many clubs including the Knight Riders Hot Rod Club and a pick-up ice hockey club after GE’s 2nd shift, to name a few. He also loved to sing and play the harmonica, dance, ride his BMW motorcycle, watch his cowboy movies, and enjoy a good breakfast at his favorite spot. Phil was a man of love, laughter (“silly goose” jokes) and dependability. He truly made an impression on everyone he met, and his memory will live on in those who had the pleasure of spending time with him. He will be deeply missed.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, 17 Chestnut St., Peabody on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 131 Broadway, Lynn. Arrangements by the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody.
