Obituary For Phyllis M Surman

Phyllis M (Kohut) Surman, 91, of Peabody, went to be with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday November 23, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Louis Surman with whom she shared over 56 years of marriage. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (O’Meara) Kohut.

She was a lifelong resident of Peabody, and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1949. She worked several years for Holden Oil Company as a bookkeeper. She was involved with various charitable organizations, such as The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and enjoyed coaching and participating in local sports. She was an active member of West Church.

Phyllis had a great sense of humor and was full of life. She had a gift for putting people at ease and making them feel welcome. She thoroughly enjoyed time spent with family and never missed an opportunity to attend her children or grandchildren’s activities and athletic events.

She was the ultimate sports fan. When she was not attending one her family member’s events, she would be home watching any and all sports on the television with her beloved dog Lillie.

Phyllis will be dearly missed by her five children, MaryAnn Wanelik and her husband William of Chester, NH, Michael Surman and his wife Sharon of Smithfield, ME, Christine Surman of Peabody, Lisa Guide and her husband, Alex of Hampstead, NH, and Gregory Surman and his wife Jennifer of Peabody, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Tina Smith and brothers, Lawrence and Richard Kohut.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody. Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the West Church, Johnson St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
