Obituary For Richard J. "Dick" Bernard

Peabody – Richard J. "Dick" Bernard 77, beloved husband of Diane (Boylan) Bernard, died Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Peabody following a brief illness.

Born in Ipswich, he was the son of the late John W. and Madeline (Abbott) Bernard. He was raised in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High School. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the United States Air Force.

Dick had been employed for over ten years as a truck driver for Wood Trucking Company in Peabody.

A resident of Peabody for the past nine years and prior to that in Gloucester, Richard was big fan of car racing, especially drag racing where he attended several races over the years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife with whom he shared thirty five years of marriage, he is survived by two daughters, Heidi Ross and Heather Jenkins both of Washington, a son, Rich Bernard and his wife, Susan of Washington, a step-son, Joe Sassone and his wife, Cherie of Wakefield, three grandchildren, Alec, Kailie and Cassidy, two brothers, Myles Eason and his wife, Sandra of Rockport and Brian Eason and his wife, Norma of Gloucester and several nieces and nephews and his beloved cat, Mango. He was also the brother of the late Mary Day, Jim Eason and Jack Bernard.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Monday, October 17, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
