Obituary For Richard K. Gannon

Van Alstyne, TX – Richard K. Gannon 87, beloved husband of the late Diane M. (Petersen) Gannon, died Saturday, April 8, 2023 in Texas surrounded by members of his loving family. Born in Somerville, MA, he was the son of the late Richard K. Gannon and Mary (Clark) Gannon. He was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School (’53). He later continued his education at State University of New York where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business followed by an MBA from the University of Connecticut and a Masters in Special Education from the University of North Texas. A retired veteran, he served his country for twenty-three years as a member of the United States Air Force including one year in Vietnam. He served as an Avionic Communications-Navigation Systems Superintendent and retired as a SMSgt in 1976 at Griffiss AFB Rome, NY. During his military service he traveled the world through various Air Force assignments and took his family on many vacations around Europe while stationed at Bitburg AB, Germany. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he was a longtime resident of Texas where he began his second career working in the semiconductor industry with Texas Instruments and later a third career as a Special Education teacher at Anna High School in TX. After retiring, he volunteered for many years at the Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman, Texas.

He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Diane. He is survived by his children, Cathy Chapman (John) in Colorado, Richard Gannon (Sarah) in Virginia, Jill Field (Bryan) in Texas and eight grandchildren whom he adored and who adored him -- Richard Gannon, Luke Chapman and his wife, Caleigh, Jakob Field, Emily Gannon, Joshua Chapman, Garrett Field, Allison Gannon, and Thomas Gannon. He was very proud to have recently become a great grandfather to Wesley Chapman. Richard also dearly loved his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Visitation will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, on Saturday, April 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a service in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to either of two charities near and dear to Richard: Southeastern Guide Dogs or the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
