Obituary For Robert D. King

Robert D. King, affectionately known as Bobby or Mr. King, passed away as a result of an accident on Monday, October 9th, 2023. He was born on July 18, 1962, in Boston, MA. His parents were, the late Lorraine and William King.

In addition to his wife, Susan, he is survived by his son, Cameron King. He was the proud brother of Debbie King, of Lynn, MA, Donna and John Martineau, of Raymond, NH, John and Clare King, of Tigard, OR, Mary and Luis Santa-Cruz, of Lynn, MA, Peter King and Susan Kennedy, of Franklin, MA, James and Lorraine King, of Exeter, NH, Christine King, of Salem, MA, Pauline and Paul Hubbard, of Everett, MA. Also many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by brothers William King, Jr and Paul King, both of NH.

Bobby was a man of deep faith, and his spirituality played a significant role in his life. He had a strong connection to Antioch Community Church of Beverly. The church was not just a place of worship for him; it was a beloved community where he found strength and peace. Bobby's unwavering faith was a source of inspiration to all who knew him.

He loved taking long walks with his faithful companion, Scruffy, his loyal dog. He took immense pride in supporting his son Cameron, who is studying music business in Nashville. Bobby was incredibly proud of his son and knew he was in the right place, pursuing his passion. He also enjoyed playing cards with β€œthe boys”.

Music held a special place in his heart, and he found joy in going to concerts. Bobby's love for music was evident in the way he appreciated and shared his favorite tunes with friends and family.

For over a decade, Bobby dedicated himself to Ayers Ryal Side Elementary School in Beverly. At Ayers Ryal Side, he was not just a custodian but a beloved figure who brightened the lives of everyone he encountered. He loved his job in every way, and it was not seen as work to him. He had a unique way of connecting with the students, staff, and teachers alike.

Bobby thoroughly enjoyed being a part of all school events. Whether he was leading a conga line of dancing students at a whole school meeting or playing the role of a superhero on the school's rooftop on the last day, Bobby's every action was driven by his unwavering dedication to the students at the school.

At the family’s request please OMIT flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Ayers PTO at this link: ayerspto.com. Thank you to the Ayers community. All donations will be contributed to the new playground that will be dedicated in his name. Bobby would be thrilled to know that all these kids would be filled with joy and laughter, in his honor.

A memorial visitation will be held at Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 2pm – 4pm, followed by his Memorial Service at 4pm.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. King's passing. Both of my children went to Ayers and always enjoyed seeing him, as did I. We walked our kids to school for two weeks leading up to my oldest child's first day of kindergarten to get her ready, and got to know Mr. King well during that time. I will miss him dearly.

I sought out Bob every service at Antioch he attended. During our 'serve Sundays' I'd always sign up for work at the school. We had great conversations. He'll be sorely missed. Unfortunately Nancy and I are away this weekend and will not be able to attend the memorial. Our sincere condolences to his family! Steve and Nancy O'Brien

as a former ayers student mr king made that school so much better and enjoyable. everyday he would greet all the kids with a smile on his face, always ready to strike up conversation. he used to do this thing at ayers called the golden dustpan, where whoever had the cleanest classroom at the end of the week got the golden dustpan (quite literally, a gold spray painted dustpan lol). he was an amazing person and even after 5 years of not seeing him he still remembered my name. finding out he passed the way he did truly broke my heart and i hope hes resting easy up there. we all loved mr king so much and still do, always will. hope everyone is doing good in the family.

Our family extends our deepest sympathies to you on the passing of your husband and father. We knew Mr. King through Ayers and both of my girls (one who is currently at Ayers and one who is now in middle school) were devastated to learn about his passing. He truly embodied the Ayers spirit and was everything that was wonderful about that community. I remember him at one of the Halloween parties wearing a sponge around his neck for a "Sponge Bob" costume. Last year, he donned a large boatlike dress for the 2nd graders' annual performance/concert. He always had a smile and watched over the school and all of our babies who attended it. He made an impact on all of the Ayers families, whether he knew it or not. I am so happy to hear that the new playground will be named in his honor. It is only fitting that someone who brought the children so much joy will be remembered in the happiness and joy that playing on that playground will bring.

To the King family. I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Bob through the Ayers School and he always had a smile on his face and knew how to make everyone laugh. As a former PTO member, I once ran a "Name the Ayers Mascot" vote. About 80% of the students voted for the name Bob. He was so loved by the students. He always was happy to lend a hand no matter what the project was. My heart goes out to you and your entire family. Wendy Doucette
