Obituary For Ruthe A. (Holsberg) Kaplan

Ruthe A. (Holsberg) Kaplan, Age 93, of Danvers, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Brightview Senior Living in Danvers. She was the loving wife of Leonard Kaplan with whom she shared 73 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Winthrop, she was the daughter of the late James and Dora (Polachewich) Holsberg. Ruthe was a graduate of Winthrop High School, class of 1945.

Ruthe had many hobbies. She enjoyed knitting, making puzzles, and playing mahjong. Ruthe was also an avid reader and shopper. She loved shopping for clothes, jewelry, and cosmetics. Ruthe was always dressed to the nines in matching outfits and always made up, including nails polished, even if she didn’t have anywhere to go.

Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, known by her grandchildren as “Gra”, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Jeffrey Kaplan and his wife Janice of Peabody, Sandra Kaplan and her husband, Scott Dunn of Peabody, and Robert Kaplan and his wife Nancy of Hingham; her grandchildren, Tova Frost, Francesca Harris, Kristie Lee Kaplan, Nikolle Pallazolo, Tyler Kaplan, Timothy Kaplan, and Steven Kaplan; her 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Arlene Weisberg; her sister, Faye Sundell; and her brother, Wilfred Holsberg.

A private service will be held at the family's request.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ruthe may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923, or Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 200 Ivy St., Brookline, MA 02446.

  • Thinking of all of you during this difficult time. I have so many memories of all the times Ruthe and Lenny welcomed me into their home. The Sunday morning breakfast and swimming in the pool at the Winthrop house and later when Sandi and I would take our Florida trips.
